Dear Patients,
I recently celebrated my 25th anniversary of practicing dentistry. I myself can hardly believe that the practice was founded so long ago, and I was very happy to be able to celebrate this anniversary with companions, colleagues, neighbors, friends, and above all with my team.
Young and fearless, I had the courage to take over the dental practice of Andreas Szpilman in 2000. He is also the son of the concert pianist and composer Wladyslaw Szpilman, whose book was filmed as “The Pianist” by Roman Polanski.
I started back then with only one dental assistant and was thrilled at how quickly the patients from Altona and Ottensen accepted me as their successor. In the meantime, the team has grown to a total of nine people. My two pregnancies in 2002 and 2004 only led to a brief interruption of work. I am still grateful to my colleagues who represented me in the practice at that time, and also for the understanding of my patients.
The number of patients increased, so that since 2005 I have been able to offer additional consultation hours through another colleague and continuously expand them. Since the beginning of my dental career, I have been interested in endodontics (root canal treatments) in addition to general dental care. In 2005 I completed a curriculum in this area and have been treating patients with the dental microscope ever since. My colleague Jovana Medugorac and I receive referrals from Hamburg dentists and colleagues from the surrounding area to perform complex root canal treatments.
In addition, I have continuously trained in the fields of CMD (temporomandibular joint and masticatory function disorders) and total prosthetics (care of edentulous patients).
In 2011, I founded the Hamburg dental network with Dr. Stephanie Wodianka and Dr. Björn Greven. Thanks to our different specializations, we can offer our patients competent treatments and organize further training for colleagues.
Special thanks go to my husband and my two now adult sons, who have always supported me and showed understanding when I was late at the practice or away at my many training courses.
I would also like to thank my team from the bottom of my heart, who stand by my side, organize the practice procedures and treatments, as well as my colleague Jovana Medugorac, who is not only an excellent dentist and endodontist, but with whom the human and collegial cooperation also works very well.
And above all, I thank you, dear patients, for your trust and loyalty. We have known each other for decades in some cases, and I look forward not only to the treatments, but also to the conversation with you on the side.
Sincerely, Dr. Andrea Gerdes
